The Interview
Individuals wanting to adopt a Collie will be interviewed. Basic
information is requested such as why they want a Collie, pet ownership
history, current pet ownership information,number of children in the
home and their ages, and if there is a fenced yard or protected
environment for the dog. Temperament, sex, and color preferences are
noted. The prospective adopter's veterinarian's name and phone number
are requested so a call can be made to the office for a reference.

Adopting From Collie Rescue
Collie Rescue will pick up Collies from shelters when overcrowding
occurs or when we are requested to do so. Collies of all ages come in
to Rescue. While the average age is 5 years old, some are as young as
6 months and others as old as 14 years. After updating the Collie's vet
care, it is placed in an isolation kennel. After ten days, the Collie is
placed in a foster home. Prospective adopters may make arrangements to
see the Collie in one of these homes.

Each rescue Collie has an adoption fee that covers the expense of updating
inoculations, worming, a heartworm test, and spaying/neutering. Because
of the support of our generous donors, we are able to keep our adoption fees
at the substantially low cost of $150 per dog.

Adopted Collies will be delivered to the adopter's home. The Collie Rescue
Adoption Agreement will transfer ownership to the new owner and must be
signed by both parties. Copies of the agreement are available in advance
of any adoption upon request.

If the Collie we have fostered does not work out as a satisfactory companion
to the adopter, Collie Rescue requires that the Collie be returned to us.
The adoption fee will be refunded unless an unreasonable amount of time has
elapsed.

Referral To A Shelter
Prospective adopters may be directed to shelters currently holding Collies and,
ideally, they will adopt their Collie directly from the shelter. There is no
charge from Collie Rescue for this referral service. You will, however, pay any
adoption fee required by the shelter. If the dog turns out to be an unsatisfactory
companion, you are required by signed agreement to return it to the shelter.

Referral To Other Collies
From time to time, families owning Collies contact Collie Rescue for help in
finding a new home for their pet. We may refer an adopter to such a family.
These Collies are usually free to a good home. The adopter should view the
Collie in its home. The original owner should offer to deliver the Collie
to the adopter. This allows each party two exposures to each other so neither
rushes into the adoption. If the dog turns out to be an unsatisfactory companion,
the original owner may or may not take it back. We recommend that the original
owner sign over ownership of the Collie when the adoption takes place. Again,
there is no fee from Collie Rescue to either party for this referral.
